JUST A STORY ABOUT A GIRL AND GUILT

It is the opening of the Olympics and I found myself watching the opening ceremoinies in spite of my misgivings. They were truly amazing.

And then, these came to mind:
It's pretty tough having mixed feelings in a complicated world where thousands are displaced, imprisoned and silenced so that I can see some pretty dance moves and amazing visions of electronic magic.

I wish I hadn't watched. I wish I were shallow.

ADDENDA: DEE HAS AN ENTRY THAT MUST BE SEEN AND SUMS UP THE ENTIRE FIASCO OF THE OLYMPICS.

You are not alone. I also decided not to watch-however, I found myself sneaking a peak last night for the last 15 minutes and on the verge of Midnight Musing about it.

I was in awe at how spectacular it was. Soon after the guilt set in and I delete my post :-(

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this web entry won't make you feel any better, but I'll chance it anyway. I love getting footage from alternate news stories, but it's still tough to look at it sometimes.

Agreed. I watched part of it, then hated myself for it.

well...I watched some of the opening ceremonies and it was too visual for me (like visual overload) and I actually had to cut it off...

I have tried to explain to my son the political stuff going on...but he is either not hearing it...or at 15, couldn't care less...

I have been watching that swimmer guy (see how interested I am) only cuz my son wants me to sit with him and pretend I am interested...

sigh.

you are not alone in this mixed feeling thing...it is complicated. how much do you react at the expense of today & for the price of the past??

Now that he's won his 8th medal already, I can go ahead and continue not watching with a bit of a lighter mind. Maybe it helped that I got the buzz about it when I woke up this morning.
